Are you a CAPT member -- or a fee-payer?
It has often been the belief of our fee-payers that since they pay union fees,
they must be CAPT members. This is not true. It is true that as a fee-payer, the amount of your monthly “fair-share fees” is slightly less than what you would pay as a dues-paying member. But, your benefits as a fee-payer are also reduced. In fact, CAPT is always looking to add to its already impressive list of “member” benefits.
That said, we’d like you to consider the advantages of becoming a CAPT member.
As a member, you would be entitled to representation through all steps of the
adverse action process including an appeal to the State Personnel Board and
hearing. You are also entitled to representation before the Licensing Board, if an action which falls under the guidelines set forth in the CAPT Operating Policies, is proposed against your license. CAPT will also be there for you should management violate any part of the Bargaining Unit 18 contract or take other action against you that is wrong, and we’ll provide advice to members who suffer a job-related injury.
Members are automatically enrolled in our CAPT-sponsored insurance
program, providing up to $10,000 in life insurance. CAPT also provides optional
insurance programs to its members at low group rates with premiums paid through
payroll deduction.
Members can also hold CAPT office, serve as CAPT job stewards and vote in
all elections.
If you’d like to become a CAPT member or are unsure of your membership
status, please contact your chapter representatives through CAPT’s voice mail
system at 1-800-926-CAPT. Or, call the Sacramento Headquarters Office at
1-800-677-CAPT for assistance.
