Chapter election process up and running
Eleven of the 12 CAPT chapters will be holding elections soon for the next two-year terms for chapter officers.
Since Agnews is slated for closure in July, the CAPT Board voted to maintain the chapter’s current administration to provide continuity of representation through the DC’s closure process. Should the closure date extend beyond July, a special election may be held as determined by the Association’s Executive Committee.
Chapter Officers
Each chapter has a president, vice president and secretary-treasurer -- except that some chapters have separate offices of secretary and treasurer.
Eligibility to run
To run for office, you must have been a CAPT member on or before January 1, 2008. Also you must have completed job steward training by March 22, 2008. Contact your chapter president to arrange for steward training locally.
Candidate filing deadline
March 10 is the deadline for filing declarations of candidacy with CAPT Headquarters. If filed by mail, they must be postmarked by March 10. It’s recommended to mail by “certified mail, return receipt requested.” If filed by FAX or email, they must be received by CAPT Headquarters by 5 p.m. March 10.
Candidate statements
If a candidate wants a one-page campaign statement included in the ballot packets that will be mailed to members, the statement must be submitted by March 10. Specific requirements for the candidate statements are in the CAPT Operating Policies. Contact your Chapter office or CAPT Headquarters and the requirements will be sent to you.
Eligibility to vote
In order to vote, you must be a CAPT member by March 17.
Mailing of ballots
Ballots will be sent by first-class mail no later than April 1 to all eligible CAPT members.
Election results
Ballots will be counted on or about May 15 and winners will take office immediately. There are procedures for runoff votes and election challenges.
